A stabilisation splint (Michigan splint, centric relation splint, flat-plane splint) is a removable acrylic appliance covering the occlusal surfaces of all teeth in one arch (usually maxillary). It provides a flat, even occlusal platform for all opposing teeth to contact simultaneously, redistributing occlusal forces and reducing muscle hyperactivity. It is the first-line, evidence-based, reversible treatment for myofascial TMD and bruxism. It should NOT permanently alter the occlusion. Typical wear: nighttime only, with periodic adjustments.
