The cell-free zone of Weil is a relatively acellular zone located immediately deep to the odontoblast layer in the coronal pulp. It contains a plexus of unmyelinated nerve fibres (plexus of Raschkow) and capillaries. Deep to this zone is the cell-rich zone, which contains fibroblasts, undifferentiated mesenchymal cells, and immune cells. The central pulp core contains larger blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissue. In inflamed or ageing pulps, the cell-free zone may disappear.
