The Quigley-Hein plaque index (modified by Turesky, 1970) measures plaque accumulation on the facial and lingual surfaces of all teeth using a disclosing agent. Scores range from 0 (no plaque) to 5 (plaque covering more than two-thirds of the crown). It provides more discriminating scores than the simpler Silness-Löe plaque index. It is commonly used in clinical trials evaluating toothbrush efficacy, mouthwash effectiveness, and oral hygiene interventions.
