Correct answer: A — Ultrasound of the affected gland
Ultrasound is the first-line imaging modality for salivary gland pathology (sialadenitis, sialolithiasis, masses). It is non-invasive, radiation-free, readily available, and excellent for differentiating solid from cystic lesions and detecting calculi. Sialography (contrast injection into the duct) can demonstrate duct ectasia and strictures. MRI sialography is a non-invasive alternative. CT is used for deep lobe parotid tumours or suspected malignancy.
