The irritation fibroma (traumatic fibroma, focal fibrous hyperplasia) is the most common benign 'tumour' (technically a reactive hyperplasia rather than a true neoplasm) of the oral cavity. It presents as a smooth, pink, dome-shaped, sessile or pedunculated nodule on the buccal mucosa (along the bite line), lateral tongue, or lower lip. It results from chronic irritation or trauma. Treatment is conservative excision; recurrence is rare.
