The pterygomandibular raphe (or fold) is a tendinous band extending from the pterygoid hamulus (of the medial pterygoid plate of the sphenoid bone) superiorly to the posterior end of the mylohyoid line on the mandible inferiorly. It is the attachment point for the buccinator muscle anteriorly and the superior pharyngeal constrictor posteriorly. It serves as a key intraoral landmark for locating the injection site for the IAN block.
