Correct answer: B — Rapid palatal expander (RPE)
Rapid palatal expander (RPE) is the first-line treatment for a constricted maxilla causing bilateral posterior crossbite. RPE separates the midpalatal suture (effective in patients under approximately 14-15 years with patent suture), increasing transverse maxillary width. Resolution of the bilateral crossbite may also partially correct the anterior open bite by allowing the mandible to reposition. Fixed labial braces address alignment but not skeletal transverse deficiency.
