The radicular (periapical) cyst is the most common odontogenic cyst, accounting for approximately 50-70% of all jaw cysts. It arises from epithelial cell rests of Malassez stimulated by inflammatory products from a necrotic pulp. Dentigerous cysts are the second most common. Odontogenic keratocysts are the third most common.
