The Bezold-Jarisch reflex is triggered by stimulation of cardiac mechanoreceptors and chemoreceptors (C-fibre vagal afferents in the ventricles). It produces: bradycardia / hypotension (vasodilation) / and apnoea. Clinically relevant in: spinal anaesthesia (decreased preload stimulates empty ventricle) / acute MI / and blood loss. Treatment: atropine / fluids / vasopressors.
