The pedicles project posterolaterally from the vertebral body. They form the lateral walls of the vertebral canal. The intervertebral foramina are bounded superiorly and inferiorly by the pedicles of adjacent vertebrae / anteriorly by the vertebral body and disc / and posteriorly by the facet joint. The spinal nerves exit through these foramina.
