The great auricular nerve (C2-C3) is a branch of the cervical plexus. It emerges at Erb's point (posterior border of SCM at the junction of its upper and middle thirds) and ascends over SCM to supply: the ear (lobule and lower auricle) / skin over the parotid gland / and angle of the mandible. It is the most commonly injured nerve during parotidectomy and rhytidectomy.
