**A is correct.** UK SDCEP guidance requires continuous monitoring through recovery until the patient is assessed as fit for discharge; discharge is criterion-led, not determined by a fixed elapsed time after the final IV midazolam dose. The patient must be orientated, have stable observations without respiratory compromise, have relevant pain/haemostasis addressed, have the cannula removed, and leave with a responsible escort who has received post-operative instructions. B and C substitute arbitrary time limits for an individual clinical assessment. D is unnecessarily restrictive: complete pharmacological clearance is not required before discharge when criteria are met and appropriate supervision is arranged. E is insufficient because escort attendance alone does not establish physiological recovery or fitness for discharge.
