Lateral medullary syndrome (Wallenberg syndrome) results from occlusion of the posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA) or the vertebral artery. Classic features include ipsilateral facial pain/numbness (trigeminal nucleus), contralateral body sensory loss, ipsilateral Horner syndrome, dysarthria, dysphagia, vertigo, nystagmus, and ipsilateral cerebellar ataxia.
