The inactivated Vero-cell Japanese Encephalitis vaccine (Ixiaro) is a non-live vaccine and is safe for immunocompromised patients including those with HIV at any CD4 count. JE vaccination is recommended for travellers spending ≥1 month in rural JE-endemic areas of Asia (including Thailand) during transmission season. Two doses are given 28 days apart. The live-attenuated JE vaccine (SA14-14-2, used in some Asian countries) is NOT available in the UK. Seroconversion rates may be lower in immunocompromised patients.
