How does CosmoFer (iron dextran) affect the absorption of oral iron?

CosmoFer (iron dextran) reduces oral iron absorption, so it should not be administered concomitantly with oral iron preparations, and oral iron therapy should not begin earlier than five days after the last CosmoFer injection.
