Omnipaque (iohexol) can induce hyperthyroidism or thyrotoxic crisis in predisposed patients, cause hypothyroidism or transient thyroid suppression in adults and children, including infants, and interfere with thyroid hormone assays and iodine uptake until urinary iodine excretion normalises.
