During treatment with Pro-Epanutin (fosphenytoin sodium), fluconazole may increase serum phenytoin concentrations through CYP2C9 inhibition, increasing the risk of phenytoin toxicity; measuring plasma phenytoin concentrations is especially helpful when an interaction is suspected.
