Answer
Propylthiouracil can cause potentially fatal systemic vasculitis at any time, even years after treatment starts, with risk potentially increasing during prolonged use; kidneys are most commonly affected, but skin, lungs and musculoskeletal systems may also be involved, and propylthiouracil should be discontinued promptly with treatment initiated as required.
