Folinic acid (disodium folinate) with 5-fluorouracil must not be started or continued until gastrointestinal toxicity symptoms of any severity have completely resolved; patients with diarrhoea require particularly careful monitoring until resolution because rapid, potentially fatal deterioration can occur.
