Start with your College login before buying another psychiatry subscription. The material many candidates remember as Trainees Online, or TrOn, sits within MRCPsych eLearning. Its Paper A revision resources and the wider material mapped to Paper B do not have identical purposes or access arrangements, so inspect them separately.
The Royal College of Psychiatrists' eLearning FAQs, checked on 19 September 2026, identify the former TrOn resources as Paper A material. They also describe relevant CPD eLearning modules mapped to Paper B, while making clear that those modules were not created as a dedicated Paper B revision course in the same way.
That is a useful distinction, not an administrative footnote. It changes what you should expect to learn and how much independent examination practice may remain necessary.
Find the entitlement attached to the right account
The College's MRCPsych eLearning page states, as checked on 19 September 2026, that Paper A resources are accessible to College members across its listed membership categories using their College credentials. The FAQ distinguishes that login from OpenAthens and describes a subscription route for readers without the relevant College registration.
An institutional library entitlement and a personal College entitlement are therefore not interchangeable assumptions. Record which account you are using, which resource opens and whether the material is the Paper A collection or a separate CPD product. A familiar logo on a login screen does not establish that every resource behind it is included.
Avoid publishing your membership details or password when asking classmates for help. A screenshot showing a generic error is usually enough to describe an access problem. For an unresolved entitlement, use the College's support route rather than repeatedly purchasing access through a different account.
Make a resource inventory by paper
Before opening another provider's checkout, create a short inventory. It should describe useful access, not merely list everything you have ever bookmarked.

The inventory should expose gaps. It should not make an already crowded revision plan look more impressive. "Accessible but not needed for this sitting" is a valid entry.
A Paper A example: repair a confused concept
Suppose a fictional learner repeatedly mixes up two psychological concepts. Their notes contain accurate definitions, but when a vignette changes the wording, they select by a familiar phrase rather than the underlying idea.
Choose the relevant module and set a precise output before reading: explain the difference using a new example. After the teaching, write two original situations that share superficial wording but require different interpretations. Ask a colleague whether the distinction is visible without the labels.
Then attempt an unfamiliar question. If the same error persists, inspect the point where your reasoning changed. Did you misunderstand the concept, overlook a discriminating detail or substitute a remembered example for the definition? Each answer suggests a different revision task.
The purpose of the module is not to decorate your notes with more terminology. It is to make the distinction usable. The reading and the subsequent question should therefore test the same concept without reproducing the same phrasing.
A Paper B example: do not mistake relevance for complete preparation
A clinical module may explain a psychiatric presentation well while leaving a different examination task untouched. For example, understanding a clinical topic does not automatically establish that you can interpret an unfamiliar research abstract about that topic.
Create an original mini-abstract with a clearly labelled hypothetical design. Ask who was studied, what was compared, which outcome was measured and what the result cannot establish. Keep calculations separate from interpretation. A learner who can name a study design may still confuse an association with a causal conclusion.
Use the current Paper B syllabus to identify what is missing from your plan rather than assuming that the relevant CPD module covers every assessed skill. The College's mapping is a useful signpost; your performance on the actual task remains something to inspect.
Decide what a supplementary subscription must add
This guide is published by iatroX, which is included here as one possible supplementary learning resource. In its September 2026 product information, iatroX provides separate Paper A and Paper B question pathways and a Socratic Tutor that follows an attempted question with targeted clarification.
That is most relevant when you need further application or help explaining an error. It does not make existing College teaching redundant. A candidate who has not opened the included Paper A modules may gain more from doing so than from buying another library. A candidate who understands the material but cannot answer unfamiliar questions may instead need focused practice.
A useful purchase statement is specific: "I need additional Paper B questions with explanations I can interrogate." "I need everything available for psychiatry" is not a learning need. Check a permitted sample and decide whether the proposed addition addresses the gap recorded in your inventory.
Return to the inventory after a short trial of the new approach. Keep the resources doing distinct jobs, finish the ones that answer a current need, and stop treating unused subscriptions as evidence of preparation.
