The curriculum update landed in August 2025. It does not require you to re-map your portfolio evidence or resit any exams. It is an evolution that incorporates contemporary realities into the existing framework.
What Is Unchanged
Three-year training structure. AKT/SCA/WPBA assessment package. Portfolio evidence requirements. FourteenFish ePortfolio platform. 13 curriculum capabilities (though wording updated). ARCP process and outcomes.
What Is New
Updated capability wording. The 13 capabilities retain the same structure but descriptors have been refreshed to reflect contemporary practice language.
Digital consultations. Now formally part of the curriculum — consulting via video and telephone is a core GP competency, not an adaptation. Relevant to SCA preparation (video-based exam format).
Climate and health. Recognised as a curriculum area — awareness of environmental health impacts and sustainable practice.
Widening access. Health inequalities, social determinants, and equity in healthcare explicitly incorporated.
Updated GP definition. "A doctor who is a consultant in general practice with distinct expertise in whole-person care, risk-management and continuity."
Impact on Exams
AKT content may gradually incorporate new curriculum areas — digital health, population health. SCA cases may increasingly feature digital consultation scenarios. The changes are evolutionary — do not expect a sudden exam format shift.
Impact on Portfolio
Capability descriptors updated — check your linking against new wording. If you linked entries to the old descriptor language and it still fits the updated version, no action needed. If the updated wording creates a better fit, update your justification.
Tool Implications
SCA Prep already covers the August 2025 update. Verify that SCA Revision, MedTutor, and other tools have incorporated the updated curriculum areas.
