How to Use Two Q-Banks for USMLE Prep: UWorld + Adaptive Review

Two Q-banks used wrong is wasteful. Two Q-banks used right is powerful. The difference is in how you combine them — not whether you have them.

The wrong way. Doing two Q-banks simultaneously in the same mode — untimed, random, learning mode. This doubles your question volume but not your learning. You encounter different stems testing the same concepts, reinforcing what you already know while leaving gaps unaddressed. The marginal learning per additional question drops precipitously after your first complete Q-bank pass.

The right way. Assign each Q-bank a distinct role. Your primary Q-bank (UWorld) handles learning — deep explanations, board-fidelity vignettes, systematic topic coverage. Your secondary Q-bank (iatroX) handles retention and gap closure — adaptive question selection targeting weak areas, spaced repetition scheduling review at optimal intervals, performance analytics showing where gaps persist.

Practical workflow. Do UWorld in timed mode — 40-question blocks under exam conditions. Review every question thoroughly (right and wrong). After each UWorld session, note which topics you consistently miss. Run iatroX adaptive drills on those specific weak topics — the engine will automatically serve more questions in those areas and schedule spaced review. Between UWorld sessions, use iatroX's spaced repetition mode to retain material from previous study days.

Time allocation. 70% primary Q-bank (UWorld), 30% adaptive supplement (iatroX). On a 4-hour study day: 3 hours UWorld (questions + review) + 1 hour iatroX adaptive drills. On commute or short breaks: iatroX mobile for 15-minute spaced repetition sessions.

When to start the second Q-bank. After completing your first pass of UWorld. By then, your performance data clearly shows your weak areas — and the adaptive supplement can target them precisely.
