A Five-Week GPhC Assessment Revision Plan

Featured image for A Five-Week GPhC Assessment Revision Plan

A five-week GPhC assessment plan needs two connected strands: calculations and clinical or professional questions. Establish a baseline for each, preserve regular practice in both, and use errors to decide what needs explanation, checking or repetition. A single overall question-bank score can conceal a weakness in one strand.

The Royal College of Pharmacy assessment page, checked on 3 October 2026, lists the autumn assessment on 10 November 2026. The five weeks from 6 October to 9 November provide a planning frame for candidates already registered, not a promise that booking is still open or that five weeks is sufficient from every starting point.

Week one: create two baselines

For calculations, inspect the method as well as the answer. Identify whether an error arose from interpreting the task, choosing the relationship, handling units, entering values, performing arithmetic or applying the requested rounding. These distinctions matter because the next exercise should target the earliest faulty step.

For clinical and professional questions, separate unfamiliar knowledge from incorrect application. A candidate may know a general principle but miss the qualification that changes the answer. Another may apply an undated rule from old notes. The same revision activity will not repair both problems.

A fictional trainee, Sana, has been pleased with her overall practice percentage. A separate review shows that uncertain correct answers are concentrated in calculations, while her professional-practice errors often involve source dates. Her new plan addresses those specific patterns rather than increasing every question quota equally.

Turn the framework into a usable coverage record

Use the current assessment framework linked through the GPhC sitting information. Confirm the document applies to your sitting. A saved file with a familiar title may not be the version you need.

Create a compact record of areas attempted, important gaps and the next review action. Do not mark a broad domain complete after one successful question. Equally, do not maintain a complicated spreadsheet that you never consult when selecting the next session.

The framework is a scope document, not a forecast of the exact questions. Use it to notice neglected learning, while recognising that a question can draw on several areas at once. Commercial topic labels may not map neatly onto the regulator's headings.

Week two: repair methods before chasing speed

For a recurring calculation error, write a worked solution that makes the reasoning visible. State the requested output, organise the supplied information, choose the operation and check the result against the original question. Use non-clinical numerical exercises when isolating a mathematical step; no dosing example is needed to practise unit consistency.

Sana discovers that she sometimes answers a request for the number of complete packs with a fractional pack quantity. The arithmetic is not the main problem. Her correction is to reread the required form of the answer before submitting it, then practise another stock-quantity example with different values.

For a clinical error, identify the source needed to resolve the uncertainty and explain the corrected decision in context. Avoid replacing a wrong option with a memorised sentence that you cannot apply when the wording changes.

Week three: combine explanation with unfamiliar practice

After targeted repair, use new questions to test the same distinction. Keep the original explanation closed. If the correct answer depends on remembering a phrase from the previous item, the transfer remains uncertain.

Retain a small amount of mixed practice so that topic headings do not supply the reasoning framework. Check correct answers reached by guessing and slow answers as well as errors. Each may reveal a different preparation problem.

Source-based questions need more than lookup familiarity. Practise identifying what information is required, finding it in the appropriate provided or authorised material during revision, and interpreting its qualifications. Do not assume that access to a resource in a learning platform means the same resource is permitted in the assessment.

Confirm the current sitting instructions separately

Use the GPhC's current instructions for the assessment platform, permitted calculator, available reference material, identification and approved adjustments. General preparation pages can contain references to older delivery arrangements, so your own sitting documentation should settle practical questions.

Do not practise with an unrestricted collection of websites and call the result an examination simulation. Open-resource learning is useful, but it answers a different question from a timed attempt under the applicable rules. Label the conditions honestly.

This article does not reproduce a permitted-resources list because that must match the current official instructions. The practical action is to check the list and rehearse the relevant navigation, not infer permission from a commercial mock.

Week four: test the integrated process

Choose a representative timed activity for each strand and reserve the debrief. Ask whether errors are caused by time pressure, unresolved knowledge or a method that becomes inconsistent when attention is divided.

Do not immediately buy another resource after an uncomfortable mock. First identify what information the result provides. If the same unit error recurs, another large clinical bank may not address it. If broad areas remain untouched, an exclusively targeted plan may now need more coverage.

Sana keeps a short list of recurring problems and one unfamiliar retest for each. She does not copy every explanation into a new notebook. The list is intended to direct the next session, not become evidence that she has worked hard.

Use iatroX for an identified learning gap

According to iatroX's October 2026 product information, its GPhC question-bank pathway includes adaptive sequencing and spaced repetition, while the Socratic Tutor explores reasoning from an attempted question. A useful role is to identify why an option was attractive and test whether the corrected distinction makes sense.

Check calculations independently and verify consequential medicines or professional claims in the appropriate authoritative source. Tutor dialogue is not a regulator-approved readiness assessment. The platform's study planner can organise available time and respond to quiz performance, but its schedule still requires review against your actual needs.

Ask-iatroX and free question access remain free without trial expiry or a verification gate under the October 2026 product information. Full banks, ongoing Tutor, planner, simulations and CPD are included together for £99 paid upfront annually, equivalent to £8.25 per month billed annually, or £29 monthly. Choose according to the relevant learning period rather than unrelated examination coverage.

Week five: narrow the final review

Use the final days for persistent distinctions, reliable checking habits and practical arrangements. Keep both strands active without attempting to rebuild the entire curriculum. A final mock is useful only when its result can still change a learning action.

Discuss substantial unresolved gaps with your designated supervisor or appropriate educational support. A commercial percentage cannot settle individual readiness. Finish with a clear method for reading the task, using the permitted tools and checking that the answer addresses the question actually asked.

Frequently asked questions

Should I spend most of the five weeks on my weaker paper?

Give additional attention to the weaker strand, but maintain regular practice in both. A combined score should not hide an area that still needs work.

Can I use any calculator or reference source during the assessment?

Do not assume so: check the GPhC instructions for your sitting and any confirmed individual arrangements. A learning platform's available tools do not establish examination permission.

Is a high practice score a guarantee of passing?

No: question difficulty, familiarity, timing and coverage vary. Use the error pattern and current official materials to guide preparation rather than relying on a universal commercial threshold.
