Eating something light, staying hydrated, and physically moving rather than remaining seated throughout the break are small, practical steps that meaningfully affect concentration in the second half of a very long day.

Why simulating the whole day matters more than simulating either paper alone

It is worth being explicit about a distinction that is easy to overlook: practising a single 180-question, three-hour paper in isolation, however well it goes, does not confirm readiness for the second paper on the same day. The fatigue a candidate carries into the second paper is fundamentally different from the fatigue present at the start of a freshly begun single-paper practice session. What a disappointing full-day simulation should actually change

If a full two-paper simulation reveals a significant drop in second-paper performance, the correct response is not simply to repeat the same simulation hoping for a better result through familiarity alone. It is worth treating that drop as genuine diagnostic information: was the decline concentrated in a specific error type, such as calculation mistakes or misread negatives, that points towards a fatigue-specific correction, or was it spread evenly across all question types, which might instead point towards insufficient sleep, poor break management, or a pacing strategy that used too much time in the first paper and left too little margin for the second. Identifying which of these applies changes what should actually be adjusted before the next practice attempt, and before the real exam itself.
