The current guidelines recommend discussing the severity of overweight or obesity and associated health risks with adults, including long-term conditions such as type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease .

Referral to an overweight and obesity management service should be offered, taking into account individual needs and preferences, and should be considered when appropriate for the person's health risk and circumstances .

Services should be accessible without an upper BMI or age limit, and suitable for individuals with varying degrees of obesity and complexity of needs, including very high BMI or age over 65 .

Referral to a dietitian should be considered when addressing drivers of obesity, comorbidities, or if tailored dietary advice is needed, especially if the person has specific dietary requirements, previous management attempts, or barriers to change .
